Do this once before your final handoff. Aim for steady, complete, and easy to understand — not perfect.
Before you film
- Pick a time with daylight or turn on every light.
- Clear counters, floors, and closets so the condition is easy to see.
- Keep your lease, move-out instructions, and any repair messages nearby.
- Turn on your phone’s date and time settings before you start.
During the walkthrough
- Start outside the front door, then move room by room without rushing.
- Film ceilings, floors, walls, windows, doors, fixtures, and appliances.
- Pause on scuffs, stains, cracks, chips, or anything that could be questioned later.
- Open cabinets, closets, the fridge, oven, and any storage areas.
- Say the room name out loud as you enter so your video stays organized.
Before you hand over keys
- Save the original video somewhere you control — do not edit over it.
- Photograph your keys, final meter readings, and any move-out receipt.
- Ask for written confirmation of key return if your building provides it.
- Keep a copy of your forwarding address and every landlord message.
